Surprise!  I'm Master Cleansing.

As a part of the normal raw food diet, a fast once every few months is recommended to help continue to rid your body of the toxins built up over time.

I found recently that I began to slip back into old habits, so I've decided to regain control and embark on a mission that not many people can accomplish successfully.  Rather, many people HAVE accomplished this task - it just took them a couple of tries to do it.

I did my research and read many accounts of the Master Cleanse before making this decision.  I looked up as many facts as possible - what it's meant for, what to expect in terms of benefits (such as toxin release, resting of the digestive system and corresponding weight loss) as well as a few negative symptoms of detox (including headaches, nausea, weakness, vomitting).  After weighing the pros and cons, I decided to give it a try.

I'm going to track everything I experienced right here in my blog.  I won't waste a lot of time chatting about the ins and outs so as not to waste your time.  Instead, I will get right to the point each day in terms of how I feel, what toxins I've seen released, and where I'm at with my weight.  To start, for the first three days, I will post twice a day - morning and evening - to let you know where I stand.

I also want to discuss some of my goals.  First and foremost, I want to get my body back on track and operating smoothly.  I've gone through a tough period recently and haven't been eating right at all.  In fact, I've had days in the past couple of weeks that look like my old SAD days.  I miss the benefits of being raw and I'd like to get those back in order.

I also want to test my will power, patience and committment.  Going raw requires a lot of committment and patience.  You have to be willing to make significant changes in your life and above all else, you have to want it for yourself.  Going raw isn't about making a statement or impressing the masses; it's about making changes and taking hold of the years you have left on this Earth and embracing them as the best that they can be.  To date, I haven't been doing that.  I hit a point where I woke up one day and thought, wow, I'm 28 years old and I've got probably 60 years left on this planet.  What will those years be spent doing?  Will I be taking 8 different medications from sun up to sun down or will I be enjoying my latter years by taking cruises with my hubby around the world?  Yeah, I want the cruises.

So, how do I feel today?

Well, I feel ok.  I mixed up my lemonade and have been sipping on it this morning.  I watched my hubby eat some SAD breakfast and both girls had cereal, so I got through that alright.  Coming into this, I think I'm different from everyone else because I didn't sit down and mentally prepare myself for this.  You may think that by not mentally preparing, I've set myself up for failure.  You might be right, but in my mind, I felt that nothing will really truly prepare me for the psychological withdrawal of food.  There's a lot of psychology in eating, as I've realized.  Stress, anxiety, etc, all play a role in how much food I eat throughout the day.  If I only paid attention to hunger, I'd probably eat a lot less than I do now.  It's a sad truth.

I think my only complaint thus far is caffeine withdrawals.  Yup, that's right.  I was a coffee drinker.  I had my last cup yesterday and now I'm pushing through the first few hours sans caffeine and it's hard.  My eyes are a little blurry and my head hurts a bit, but other than that I'll survive....I hope!  I'll check in again later and let you know how it's going.
